The Story of God

Discover the Grand Narrative of Scripture

Humans are narrative creatures. We understand life through the lens of story. The stories we believe shape us. The truest story we can be shaped by is God’s story. It is the ultimate reality that sets us free to love as God intended

The grand narrative of Scripture is a powerful and transformative story that spans the entire Bible. It is the story of God's relentless pursuit of humanity, His love and grace manifested through His redemptive plan. From Genesis to Revelation, every verse, every book, every character, and every event is intricately woven together to reveal God's unchanging plan for salvation and restoration.

Over several weeks we will study scripture from cover to cover and in Missional Communities, we will discover together how this impacts our lives within our own stories. Below you will find various resources that will help you discover Jesus in the scriptures. The framework we will utilize is that the grand narrative of scripture follows the pattern of Creation, Crisis, Covenant, Christ, Church, and new Creation.

Below you can find several resources to help you explore scriptures and find God in the midst of your story.

BREAD BIBLE READING METHOD

There are many different mindsets to go into scripture engagement. At times we need to understand context and historical backgrounds to really engage with Scripture. At other times, we simply need to allow the Spirit to use the Word to transform us. Often times, if we read our Bible, we settle with a quick reading of an assigned text in a plan and move on.

Rather than rushing through reading the Bible in the morning, the BREAD method of scripture reading intentionally slows us down to encounter the God found within scripture. You can find much more information, including a PDF of a daily Bible reading plan from KXC in London here!

praying the bible

Another great resource for diving into the Story of God, is using his Word to guide our prayers. This brings life and God’s ordained word in our own personal prayers.

God’s book of Psalms is a book of prayers to help us engage with God with the entire range of human emotion that he has given to us. You can pray the Psalm of the day by looking up todays date (i.e. the 1st of the month) and pray through that Psalm. Now, there are only 31 days in a month max, so each day you can look through the Psalm of that date, and then add 30 to that number to have more Psalms available for that day. On the 31st of each month, you can pray through Psalm 119 because it is a lengthier Psalm that requires just one Psalm for that day.

Below is a video explaining how to Pray the Bible from Don Whitney, author of “Praying the Bible.”
